`
`Just curious.
`
There were lots of them in print. I saw them... in 1985. They had a great
big American Flag on the screen too. Kind of ironic, isn't it?
Actually, I saw some TV ads about a year ago on an independent station. Not
lately, though.

Thats good news! I've dealt with J&R a lot and they always laud the
ST and its sales, their systems fly out the door and they are one of
the few retailers that heavily push Atari products in full page ads
every Tuesday in the New York Times. The Portfolio has been advertised
by J&R every week since it was announced! Now if only Atari would keep
advertising as they did earlier this year in the NY Times sales might
really be something in a city of 7 million without even one authorized
Atari service center <grin>.

You know, I try to ignore stuff like this, but I just can't this time. I'd
send you nasty mail, but I want the people likely to be offended by this to
see the response.
First of all, the ST is a personal computer. The "Cookie Jar" is relatively
new to that arena. Secondly, how do you know it's 1982 technology if you don't
know how it's implemented or even the extent of what it does. I do, by the way
but I have been asked not to disclose it until it's made public by Atari and
I intend to honor that request. (Even thought I haven't signed the new
non-disclosure agreement yet :-) It's quite well done, believe me.
The REAL reason I replied to your posting is that it's offensive. If you ever
expect to see more upgrades to TOS, you shjouldn't be discouraging those whose
sweat and enthusiasm it will take to make it happen. _SOME_ of us appreciate
the things Atari's doing of late (like TOS 1.4, HDX 3.x, cookie jar) and we'd
like to continue to see improvements.
If you want to scare Ken B. and others off the net, continue to offend them
this way. Remember, they have constraints to work within, not the least of
which is compatibility. The three enchancements I mentioned above are fine
examples of how Atari (read Atari's engineers) has provided enhancements
which increase the value of older machines without being incompatible with
old software.

Hi there,
I am looking for a prolog system for my ST (1040, mono monitor,
no hard disk) but have little idea of what is available and its cost.
I would prefer a `Clocksin and Mellish' compatible implementation,
and some kind of external database facility (such as in Turbo Prolog)
would be useful.
Any recommendations, anyone?
Many thanks,
David Duke.

Remember that Computer Shopper magazine is the mouthpiece of the
mail-order business. After Atari cut off that market, the mail-order
companies have never had anything good to say about Atari.

Don't know if this is what you are referring to or not, but in the 6/13/88
issue of InfoWorld was an article on work on Intermedia at Brown University.
I think they used a "Toolbox Emulator" like the one you mention. The
text reads, in part:
"The system originally was created for the IBM RT PC under
Unix 4.2 (with a Macintosh-like user interface) using Cadmac,
a Mac application framework from Cadmus. However, with the
advent of Apple's A/UX and multitasking, the Brown team
was able to move part of the system to the Macintosh II."
So, Cadmac may be the product you were referring to.
